ILLINOIS — The Illinois Revenue Alliance issued the following statement in response to Governor JB Pritzker’s budget address:
“Governor Pritzker’s budget address exposed the critical juncture at which Illinois finds itself. Unprecedented attacks on Medicaid, SNAP, education, housing and other federal funding at the hands of the Trump administration threaten Illinois’ promise that every family — no matter their background — can afford to live here. Meanwhile, billionaires and big corporations are cashing in on massive new tax breaks from Trump.
“We acknowledge the Governor’s inclusion of a social media platform fee and provisions to reduce corporate tax giveaways, and appreciate his effort to avoid harmful cuts and fund critical programs. While this is a start, Illinois must confront both escalating federal attacks and decades of structural underfunding with bold, lasting solutions.
“The Governor and General Assembly face a clear choice: leave Illinois families exposed to the fallout of Trump’s agenda, or make billionaires and giant corporations finally pay what they owe to fund the investments our families require. Working people did not create this crisis, but if our state leaders fail to act, they will be the ones forced to pay for it.
“The Illinois Revenue Alliance has laid out a path forward: tax digital advertising giants, enact a billionaire wealth tax, require worldwide combined reporting to stop offshore profit shifting, and close corporate loopholes. Together, these measures would generate more than $4 billion in new revenue to fully fund the programs that allow our families to thrive.
“We look forward to working with the Governor and General Assembly to fix our upside-down tax code, and make our state budget the strongest line of defense against federal attacks. The solutions are on the table. What we need now is bold leadership to act.”
