Tax Day Protest Will Call for Action to Hold the Super-Wealthy Accountable for Their Share of Revenue, to Protect Vulnerable Illinoisans

CHICAGO — On Tuesday, April 15, members and supporters of the Illinois Revenue Alliance will gather on Chicago’s Near South Side to demand that our state elected officials do their part to fight back against the Musk-Trump Administration’s plan to undo the New Deal, steal health care, and destroy Social Security for millions of Americans — all to get trillions in tax breaks for billionaires and their cronies.

Action Details

April 15, 2025

4:30 PM CDT, beginning at the Greyhound Bus Terminal (630 W. Harrison St, Chicago, IL 60607) and marching to the South Loop Tesla Dealership (717 S. DesPlaines St, Chicago, IL 60607)

With a Democratic supermajority in Springfield, Illinois’s elected leaders can and should be our champions in this historic moment. In this legislative session, Illinois Democrats can choose to stand up to the oligarchy and protect the people of Illinois by closing billions in corporate tax loopholes. This will protect health care for millions, save public transportation from a fiscal cliff, and build investments in education and community services that are vital to Illinois’ wellbeing and our future.

Governor Pritzker and the General Assembly have a critical responsibility at this moment to do all they can to protect Illinoisans in this and subsequent years as an out-of-control federal administration threatens everything our state believes in, seeking nothing less than to destroy our state’s quality of life by taking away resources we need to maintain our values of community, fairness, and opportunity for all — regardless of their race, gender, or where they come from. Recognizing this need, the Illinois Revenue Alliance has developed a set of concrete, achievable policy proposals to generate revenue in a progressive manner.

Too often in Illinois, the needs of our communities are never fully met due to budgetary constraints. We call on our elected officials in Springfield to protect and support Illinois families by taxing the people who hold the majority of our state’s wealth to support working families from Chicago to Cairo.
